There is not much known today of Karl Klimsch, but there are a lot of copies of his spectacular typefaces. Today you can find his illustrations of type in old monogram, initial, and decorative alphabet books (they're kind of like dover books, but for really old type).

Karl Klimsch lived in the mid through late 1800's and carried out his life as a painter and printmaker in Germany. He grew up amongst a family of entrepreneurs and artists in Frankfurt. He continued to study at the Academy of Fine arts in Munich and was known for his commissioned portraits. He also produced logos and type.
